Maria Lyn comes from the Welsh valleys, from a singing and performing family; her father had his own band called ‘The Reflections’ in the 1970’s and until recently sang in the world famous ‘Morriston Orpheus Choir’, she has a son Ben who also until recently sang in the same ‘Morriston Orpheus Choir’ and a daughter Steph who became a West Wales Champion gymnast at the age of 7, a World Champion Street Dancer at the age of 14 and graduated College with a triple distinction in dance.

The early years
Although Maria Lyn started piano lessons at the age of 9 her first stage appearance was at the age of 10 in church services, and at the age of 13 she gave her first live stage show acting Bridgette, one of the Von Trapp children in The Sound of Music. Then followed shows where Maria Lyn took the lead role every year. At the age of 16 she was awarded Grade 8 Distinction piano and offered a Scholarship to The Royal College of Music in London. She was awarded the Diploma In Piano (earning the coveted ALCM qualification) at the age of 17. From then to her mid-20’s Maria Lyn continued amateur dramatics taking the lead in every show; Maria twice in ‘The Sound of Music’; Dorothy twice in ‘The Wizard of Oz’; Nellie Forbush in ‘South Pacific’; Sarah Brown in ‘Guys n’ Dolls’; Yum Yum in ‘The Mikado’; Irene O’ Dare twice in ‘Irene’ and she also took the main roles in ‘The Boyfriend’, ‘Godspell’ and ‘The Fiddler on the Roof’. At the age of 20 Maria Lyn became a teacher of both the piano and singing, and aged 21 she gained Grade 8 Distinction in singing. Aged just 24 Maria Lyn became the Musical Director and conductor to a 13-piece operatic society orchestra. From the age of 32 she became the accompanist (i.e. the pianist) for 3 musical societies and a ladies choir, a position she held for 5 years.
 
The professional years
At the age of 36 Maria Lyn became a professional singer and pianist initially starting in Wales then throughout the UK performing in clubs, restaurants and at private functions to “serve her apprenticeship”. Then followed major appearances as the headline singing act in various major theatres including St.Davids Hall Cardiff (audience of 1,700), the Swansea Grand (1,300), Llandeilo (1,600), Rhyl Pavilion (1,600), etc. At the age of 38 her first album “From Within” was released.

The international award winning singer and pianist emerges!
At the age of 38 Maria Lyn started to appear on the international circuit commencing in Ireland 4 times a year for 3 years, booked to perform at one of the largest hotels in Kinsale to coincide with the Kinsale Fringe Jazz Festival. Her second album “Amigos Siempre” was released when Maria Lyn was 39 and that album having been aired on national radio was awarded BBC Radio Wales ‘Album of the Week’. Then followed her first tour with the legendary Max Boyce. She then accepted the honour of becoming the Patron of a Welsh breast cancer charity. Following this Maria Lyn sang in the Stan Stennant Show for 4 seasons. At the age of 40 Maria secured her first contract to sing in Thompson Gold hotels commencing initially in the Canary Islands and Majorca but then other contracts followed for Thompson Gold hotels around the Med. At the same time her third album “Because We Believe” was released, which was also aired on national radio and as with the previous album this third album was also awarded BBC Radio Wales ‘Album of the Week’. Then followed 2 major events in Maria Lyn's career, being a judge on 'The Welsh Factor' (the welsh version of 'The X-Factor') and performing at The Variety Club of Great Britain Awards Ceremony. After just one audition at the age of 40 Maria Lyn secured international contracts commencing in 2010 on the Fred Olsen, Saga and Cruise & Maritime cruise ships. Then at the age of 41 Maria secured a second tour with Max Boyce. By November 2011 in just one year Maria had appeared on 10 cruises and in that year performed to audiences totalling over 30,000! In December 2011 her sensational "To be loved" album, her 4th, was released to rave reviews. In 2012 she performed on 13 cruises, including two legs of Saga World Cruises and a New Years Eve cruise in the Caribbean, and she won the accolade of being "One of our Top 5 acts" with Saga cruises. As another 2012 highlight at the end of December Maria Lyn won the Cruise Entertainer of The Year award. In 2013 Maria Lyn performed on another 16 cruises across 6 ships at destinations from the Caribbean to Brazil, to the Amazon and to 'the northern lights', to the North Cape and to many of the usual cruise ships destinations in the Med. In 2014 Maria Lyn signed contracts on 15 cruises to more amazing destinations and in 2015 she secured her first contract, of many that were to follow, on the fabulous 6-star Seabourn cruise line! That year Maria secured a months contract to perform as the headline act in Potters Leisure Resort, the only 5-Star Resort in the UK. In 2016 Maria Lyn had the honour of performing on the Seabourn Antarctica Expedition Cruise and is one of only 30,000 people per year that are authorised to set foot on Antarctica, the 7th Continent! In March 2017 Maria's 5th album "All the Way" was released.

Now living for most of the year in sunny Spain Maria Lyn is continues to thrill her cruise ship audiences..
